Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Learning Community?

A Learning Community is a group of students who live and/or learn together, often sharing courses and activities. These communities create a supportive environment that fosters academic success, personal growth, and a sense of belonging.

Benefits of joining a learning community include:

  • Built-in academic support and mentorship.
  • Opportunities for leadership and community engagement.
  • Social events and co-curricular activities.
  • A strong network of peers with similar interests.
  • Apply through the Learning Communities portal after you’ve been admitted to CSU. Some Learning Communities request additional application information that you will be directed to from the Portal.
  • Some communities require co-enrollment in specific courses.
  • Applying for a Learning Community is separate from your CSU admission and housing application.

Yes! Joining a Learning Community does not automatically secure your housing on campus. You must complete your housing application through CSU Housing & Dining Services at https://housing.colostate.edu.

Generally, students participate in one Learning Community at a time due to course and housing requirements. Contact the communities you’re interested in joining for additional information.

If your preferred community is full, they may offer a waitlist option, or you can explore other communities that match your interests.

Not all, but many do. Check the specific requirements for the community you’re interested in on the Community Options page.

For additional questions about a specific community, contact the Coordinator using the information on the Contact Us page. For general questions about Learning Communities on campus, email us at learning_communities_csu@colostate.edu and we’ll be happy to help!
